FAAC Access Control Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

FAAC access control installation in Los Angeles typically runs $450 to $1,400 installed, depending on whether you need a keypad, card reader, intercom, or full phone-based entry system. We stock the common FAAC XT2, E024U, and 415-compatible control boards on our trucks, and about two-thirds of access control calls we run are same-day in Los Angeles when it’s a straight swap. Most owners discover the failure the hard way: the gate stops responding to the remote, the keypad goes dark, or the call box rings through to nobody. The part that fails is rarely the keypad itself. It’s the controller behind it, and FAAC controllers fail in predictable ways.

  • Typical installed range: $450-$1,400 for FAAC-compatible access control in Los Angeles
  • What we stock locally: FAAC XT2 controller boards, E024U boards, keypads, loop detectors, and radio receivers
  • Independent provider: we service and install FAAC equipment but are not affiliated with FAAC
  • Same-day availability: roughly two-thirds of controller swaps are completed the day you call

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

FAAC has been building gate automation since 1965, and the Los Angeles market sees a lot of their swing and slide operators on hillside properties from Studio City to Palos Verdes. The access control installation work we do covers the FAAC 400, 412, 415, 422, 750, 770, and S800 series, plus the older 402 and 750E models still turning daily on gates across Los Angeles. If you’re not sure which board you have, open the control box and look for a white or green board with a FAAC part number printed on the corner, usually beginning with “E” (E024U, E045, E124) or “XT” for the newer programmable controllers. That number matters more than the motor housing outside.

One FAAC-specific compatibility gotcha: the XT2 controller speaks a different protocol than the older 455D boards, and you cannot mix a new XT2 keypad with a 455D-era receiver without a protocol converter. We see DIY attempts at this exact mismatch once or twice a month in Los Angeles. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for FAAC controller boards, we recommend OEM or proven equivalent boards like the E024U that FAAC has used across multiple series. The aftermarket keypads on the market save little money and fail fast in coastal Los Angeles air. If your property is within three miles of the ocean, that salt-heavy air shortens unsealed keypad life to roughly two years, sometimes less.

Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • The keypad lights but nothing moves. Power reaches the keypad, but the relay on the controller board isn’t closing. Usually a burned contact or a failed transistor on the board. The fix is a board swap, not a keypad replacement.
  • Your remote works, but the keypad doesn’t. The RF receiver is fine. The fault is isolated to the keypad circuit or its wiring. We test with a meter before quoting any part, because replacing the keypad when the board is bad wastes your money.
  • The access control works intermittently. If it works in the morning but not by afternoon, suspect heat. Boards mounted in direct Los Angeles sun inside a dark metal box hit 140°F by noon, and failing solder joints open up as they expand. Intermittent is the early warning, not the final failure.
  • The gate opens by itself at random. This is almost never a ghost. Usually a failing loop detector seeing phantom vehicles or a short in the buried loop wire. We isolate each input therminal by terminal to find the culprit. On FAAC systems, the loop detector normally lives on the same board as the access logic, so this fault often means a board replacement.
  • A blown LCD, dark LED, or unresponsive buttons. The keypad face itself has failed. If a replacement face is available for your FAAC model, that’s a low-cost fix. If it’s an older integrated unit, the whole keypad gets replaced with a compatible current unit.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a FAAC-compatible access control installation ranges from $450 on the low end for a single keypad wired to an existing controller, up to $1,400 for a full controller swap with phone-based entry and a new loop detector. The main cost drivers are which FAAC series you have, whether we’re replacing just the keypad or the controller board behind it, and how far the keypad sits from the gate. Most single-family FAAC access jobs in Los Angeles land between $550 and $900.

FAAC Access Control Job Typical Los Angeles Installed Price
Keypad replacement (wired, surface-mount) $450-$650
Controller board swap (E024U or equivalent) $550-$850
Full controller + keypad + receiver $800-$1,200
Phone-based entry system integration $950-$1,400

Every price is written and handed to you before we open a tool bag. That includes the part, the labor, and the documentation we leave behind: photo record of what was found, the part number installed, and the wiring as built. The work carries our one-year Done Right Promise. If anything on that access control installation fails within 365 days, we come back and make it right at no charge.

You can safely check a few things before calling: confirm the breaker feeding the gate hasn’t tripped, look for obvious water or ant damage inside the control box, and note which functions still work (remote, keypad, intercom). That’s the limit. We work inside 24-volt control circuits on the accessory side of FAAC boards, but accessing the controller means opening a powered panel, and the line-voltage side of these systems carries real risk. Wiring a keypad to the wrong terminal can send 120 volts through a component rated for 24, and that ruins a board in seconds while creating a shock hazard.
