Viking Welding & Fabrication: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock, fabricate, and install Viking-compatible welded gate parts across Los Angeles, with most weld repairs and part replacements running $180-$650 installed depending on what broke and whether we’re repairing in place or replacing the assembly. If your Viking gate has a cracked hinge, a snapped weld at the operator mount, or a gate leaf that’s sagging because a welded joint let go, we can usually get it done same-day or next-day.
Most owners discover a weld failure the way you’d expect: the gate starts dragging on the driveway, the operator groans, or a hinge pin finally shears after months of carrying weight it was never meant to hold alone. Welded steel doesn’t fail silently. It fails slowly, then all at once. By the time you’re reading this, the damage usually isn’t a mystery. What’s missing is a straight answer about what it costs to fix and whether the part can be matched to your Viking gate without waiting three weeks for a freight shipment.
We’re an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Viking. What we are is a Los Angeles welding and fabrication shop that has been repairing Viking gate hardware since 2014, with a written price in your hand before any torch gets lit or any weld gets dressed.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Most Viking gate hardware we weld and fabricate for in Los Angeles falls into two buckets: the swing gate hardware (hinge plates, operator mounting brackets, gate frame corner welds) common to Viking’s R6 and T21 swing systems, and the slide gate track supports and cantilever roller brackets used on Viking’s slide gate operators and frames. The compatibility question usually isn’t the motor, it’s the steel it’s bolted to. A Viking R6 bolted to a welded steel gate from 2008 will fail at the bracket, not the board.
Here’s the gotcha most parts suppliers won’t tell you: Viking’s operator mounting plates are not universal. The hole spacing on a Viking R6 mount is not the same as a LiftMaster or FAAC mount. If your gate was welded around the original Viking bracket and you’re replacing the operator, the new plate has to be fabricated to match the existing hole pattern, or you’re drilling new holes into fatigued steel. We keep Viking hole-pattern templates on the truck for exactly this reason. We identify the right part by the operator’s data plate (model year, which series), the hinge plate’s thickness (Viking residential plates run 1/4″; fabricated replacements should match or exceed that), and the weld condition at the gate frame.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Viking’s factory hinge plates and brackets are good steel, powder-coated, and expensive to ship. Quality aftermarket fabrication, done by a shop that knows Viking’s specs, often outperforms OEM because it’s made for the actual gate weight and the actual hinge geometry, not a generic template. We fabricate in-house and we’ll tell you which is the better buy for your exact gate before you spend a dollar.
Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- Gate sag at the latch side that worsens weekly. The top hinge weld has a hairline crack at the frame or the post. Weight that used to transfer through the weld is now hanging on the hinge bolts, and the bolts are slowly ovaling their holes.
- Operator mounting bracket flexes when the gate cycles. Look at the bracket while someone opens the gate. If you can see it flex or hear a metallic tick, the weld root has cracked. The motor is working against movement instead of directing it. This failure kills Viking boards faster than power surges do.
- Hinge pin visible above the hinge barrel. Welded hinge barrels wear, especially when the weld was undercut during the original fabrication. The pin works its way up and the gate rides on the barrel edge until the weld fails completely.
- Rust streaks at a weld joint, not at the paint chips. Paint chips are cosmetic. Rust weeping from the edge of a weld bead means the weld is actively separating and moisture is getting into the crack. In Los Angeles, that’s rarer than coastal and mountain areas, but it happens at any property within a few miles of the ocean.
- Gate stops exactly where it wants, not where the limit says. When a slide gate carrier or cantilever bracket weld fails, the gate’s travel becomes inconsistent. The operator is trying to hold tolerances on a track that’s no longer square. It looks like a motor problem. It’s usually steel.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Viking welding and fabrication work in Los Angeles typically runs $180-$650 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing in place or fabricating a replacement part. A cracked weld at a hinge plate that can be ground out, re-welded, and dressed runs $180-$280 per hinge. A fabricated replacement for a Viking operator mounting plate, plasma-cut and drilled to the exact hole pattern, runs $320-$450 installed. Full gate frame corner repair with gusset fabrication runs $450-$650.
Every price is written and handed to you before any work starts. That includes materials, labor, welding consumables, and paint. If we find something additional once we’re into the repair, we stop and show you before we spend more of your money. The job ends with a photo log of every weld we made, ground, or replaced, and the part number (or fabrication drawing) of what we installed, filed in your job record. That’s Haven Standard Clause 4: Evidence on every job.
The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every weld and fabricated part we install. If the repair isn’t right within a year, we make it right at no additional charge.
DIY or Call Us?

You can check the welds yourself. Look for rust streaks at the bead, flex in the operator bracket during operation, and any change in gate travel. Take photos. Mark the crack with a paint pen so you know if it’s growing. That’s information that helps any fabricator.
What you shouldn’t do is fire up a welder on a loaded gate. A residential driveway gate under tension can weigh 300-600 pounds. A bad weld on a loaded hinge can release that weight suddenly. Grinding and re-welding a hinge in place requires supporting the gate leaf safely, managing heat distortion, and knowing whether the original weld was contaminated. We’ve been called to plenty of Los Angeles driveways where a DIY weld held for two months and then failed worse than the original crack. A fabricated replacement bracket that doesn’t match the drive geometry will destroy a Viking operator in six months.

FAQs
Original Viking hinge plates and mounting brackets typically last 8-14 years in Los Angeles, with coastal properties skewing shorter and inland properties skewing longer. The welds fail before the steel does. A properly fabricated replacement, welded by a shop that knows gate load geometry, typically outlasts the original. Call us for an assessment if your gate is past 10 years and showing any sag.
It depends on the crack location and the steel condition. A single clean crack at a hinge plate weld can be ground out and re-welded in place. A crack that runs through a bracket’s bolt hole, or a hinge plate that’s visibly thinned from rust, should be replaced with a fabricated part. We’ll tell you which one we’d pick and why, and the price is written before we start.
Most single-joint weld repairs take 90 minutes to two hours on site, including setup, welding, grinding, and paint. Fabricating a replacement bracket in our shop and installing it usually takes one to three days, depending on the part’s complexity and our current fabrication queue. We’ll give you a timeline in writing with your estimate.
We stock standard Viking hole-pattern templates, 1/4″ steel plate, hinge pin stock in common Viking diameters, and welding consumables for galvanized and powder-coated steel. Most hinge and bracket repairs are done in one visit because we carry the materials. If a part needs custom fabrication, we’ll tell you before we leave the first visit.
If your Viking gate has a failing weld or a broken bracket, call us at (213) 674-2473. Adrian Vance and the team will assess the part, quote a written price, and leave you with a documented record of exactly what we did.
